The questionnaire was distributed in the November 2020 Edition of the Parish Magazine, and links were provided on the Parish Council Facebook Group, Spotted Appleby Magna Facebook Group, the Parish Council Notice Boards and the Whats App Appleby Chat Group.
A brief summary can be seen below a more detailed response can be seen on the Parish Council Website.
The majority of the responses were from residents of Appleby Magna, and the Parish Magazine is seen to be the favoured means of communication, with the recent introduction of Facebook also popular.
It is clear from responses to both Q4 Speeding and Q6 Parish priorities, that speeding vehicles are of a concern to a large proportion of respondents. Work on setting up a community speed watch has already started, though currently on hold due to COVID-19 restrictions. In addition, the Parish Council has been investigating the use of Speed Awareness signage for the village, and hope to be able to secure two signs for the village within the next few months.
Q5 On the whole respondents are generally happy with these areas (Road Maintenance, Pavements, Street Lighting, Verges, Litter Bins, Planters, Benches, Notice Boards), however the responses to this and elsewhere throughout the survey show that there are some concerns on road maintenance, pavements and in particular verges..
Q6 In terms of top Priorities for the Parish Council together with speeding the following were the top areas raised
Community (Support for residents, community spirit, community events, village life, engaging with the community, village identity)
In terms of community, it is truly one of the positives to come out of the pandemic, to see how the village has pulled together to help each other out and, as you will see in Q7 there appears to be interest in more community events, and we will certainly be looking at ways in which we can support this.
Facilities (Shop, bus service, sports facilities, village hall, benches)
Looking at the facilities in the village many are somewhat outside of our remit, however we can look at more benches and potential sports facilities, and will be discussing the items raised in more detail.
Village Environment (Building sites, dog fouling, litter, hedges and verges, pathways, parks, green spaces)
This covers many aspects that you have raised some of which we will raise as agenda items for future Parish Council Meetings
In terms of Dog Fouling, we have already requested the warden from NWLDC visit, which they did so before Christmas, unfortunately they did not find enough evidence to deem it an issue, therefore we encourage all residents to report instances to NWLDC > https://www.nwleics.gov.uk/pages/dog_fouling.
Q7. What events would you like to see organised in the Parish?
A large proportion of the comments concerned “community events” whether that be Gala or Fete, Festivals, Farmers Markets, Music Events, Film Nights, Village Show, Sports day. We will discuss how we might be able to help facilitate this – watch this space.
Q8. Village facilities
A variety of suggestions were received, village shop; circular walks around the village; sports events; bike trails. An outdoor Gym proved to be very popular and we are looking at how this might be funded.
